As the year comes to a close, it’s hard not to feel retrospective. This December — can you believe it’s already here? — Central Florida Health News looks back on another successful year of sharing the stories of our community and championing the efforts of our healthcare partners across the region. Among the many features we’ve published, a few shine brightly in our memories.
Our Pets & Your Health edition featured local therapy dog Koda the Fluff and the countless smiles she brings as she comforts patients and healthcare workers across Central Florida and beyond. Owner Jena McKinstry shared both her heartwarming adventures and the impact she continues to make.
In our Senior Health edition, we introduced readers to Polk residents Doug Wright and Cynthia Aycock who credit their vibrant health and strong social ties to their full dance schedule.
As always, this year’s Tribute to Nursing edition remained a reader favorite. It not only showcased top nursing talent but also emphasized the compassion and dedication that make these professionals the backbone of our healthcare system.
More recently, we spotlighted the partnership forged between Florida Polytechnic and the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine as they collaborate on an innovative fast-track six-year medical degree program. This bold approach aims to help alleviate Central Florida’s ongoing physician shortage.
As the year wound down, we shared the powerful voices of breast-cancer survivor Katie Rader and type 1 diabetic Ben Milsom, who have both turned their diagnoses into advocacy, support, and hope for others.
As we look ahead to the new year, we’re energized by the promise of even more meaningful stories to tell. From the entire team here at Central Florida Health News, we wish you the happiest of holidays and a healthy new year.
