May 29 – Women’s Self-Defense Class

Participants will learn to defend themselves against common threats, enhance safety, and decrease their chances of becoming a target. Perfect for teens, college students, and all women older than 15 and taught by a female instructor! May 30, June 6, 13, 20 – Total Joint Replacement

This free class is for patients who have a total joint replacement surgery scheduled, plus one guest per patient. May 30 – June 1 – 2024 Florida Mission of Mercy

Coming to the RP Funding Center, Florida Dental Association and FLA-MOM (Florida Mission of Mercy) are hosting a free, professional dental clinic, providing services to the underserved and uninsured of Lakeland. Cleanings, fillings, extractions, limited root canals and pediatric dentistry services will be offered. Doors open at 7 a.m. and patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. 

May 31 – Barre Fitness

Join an all ages, ballet-inspired fitness course that welcomes all experience levels to help strengthen lower and upper body, as well as core, from 6-7 p.m. The cost is $5 per class at Kelly Rec Center, 404 Imperial Blvd., Lakeland. Visit for more information and registration. 

May 31 – Autism/ASD Support Group

Join the Carol Jenkins Barnett United Way Children’s Resource Center for a community support group, where parents of children with ASD/Autism can connect and meet other parents in their area and gather more information and support on their child’s diagnosis  from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Carol Jenkins Barnett United Way Children’s Resource Center, 650 Bonnet Springs Blvd., Lakeland. June 1 – CPR/AED/First Aid Course

This instructor-led Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/ AED combo course offered through the American Red Cross educates on the basic yet critical key actions that can be taken during a life-threatening emergency that can help sustain or save a life until EMS arrives. Cost is $55 for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED and $45 for Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED. A resuscitation mask is needed as well, which can be brought from home or purchased at the event for $12. Located at the Clover Room at UF/IFAS Extension Polk County, 1702 Hwy 17 S, Bartow. June 1 – SunSmart Event – LRH and Bonnet Springs Park

June 3 – Low Impact Exercise Class

June 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 – Chair Yoga  

All ages and all experience levels are welcome to enjoy a chair yoga course taught by a certified yoga instructor! Hosted by the City of Lake Wales. June 8 – 29 Summer Sunrise Watermelon 5K

The Lakeland Runners Club is hosting its 29th annual Summer Sunrise race, where you can get sweaty for scholarships! All proceeds from this race go toward Polk County graduates’ scholarships through the Polk Education Foundation. June 8 – Family Fun Day Community Roundup

The Early Learning Coalition of Polk County presents a free fun family day! Food, face painting, balloon art, music and free gifts for children will make this a day you don’t want to miss the Fourth annual Family Fun Day. Located at 115 S. June 10, 25 – Forget Me Not Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group

Families and individuals who have experienced the loss of a child through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or early infant death can gather with others to explore their grief while honoring their loss by learning how to strengthen communication with loved ones and engage in self-care activities. The meeting takes place from 1 – 2 p.m. at Winter Haven Women’s Hospital, Classroom C, 101 Ave O SE, in Winter Haven. It is a free meeting. Register online at

June 12 – Tobacco Free Florida’s Quit Your Way 

Advent Health Heart of Florida presents a Group Quit Session, the in-person option of Tobacco Free Florida’s Quit Your Way program, where a trained and caring facilitator provides information and NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) such as gum, lozenges, and patches to participants 18 and older. June 18 – Heart Smarts Class

Join Hearts Smarts, hosted by Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center at 3525 Lakeland Hills Boulevard, Lakeland from 1:30- 2:30 p.m. Heart Smarts will help you understand heart disease and how lifestyle changes may improve cholesterol, blood pressure control, and reduce risks. Topics include the importance of healthy lifestyle changes, warning signs of a heart attack and appropriate action steps, high blood pressure, stress management, diabetes, nutrition, and physical activity. June 21 – Zumba Toning

Join the Zumba excitement at Just Dance Academy, 124 S. Kentucky Ave., Lakeland,  from 7-8 p.m. with weighted, maraca-like toning sticks and Zumba moves to burn calories and sculpt your body. The cost is $10 for advance tickets and $15 at the door. Visit for registration. 

June 23 – Lakeland Women’s Day

This free event celebrates and honors the women of Lakeland at the RP Funding Center, 701 W Lime Street, Lakeland, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. All women are welcome to come and get pampered free of cost! Chair massages, brow waxing, hair styling, and even makeup will be offered, as well as a self-defense class, temporary tattoos, local vendors, and fun giveaways. 

June 27 – Postpartum Essentials

Join Lakeland Regional Health for a virtual class from 2:30- 3:30 p.m., where moms-to-be and dads-to-be can learn about breastfeeding, newborn care, self-care, and more. For more details and registration, visit: 

June 29 – Back-to-School Immunization Clinic – Lakeland

Get a jump-start on immunizations for your children! The Florida Department of Health in Polk County will be offering special Saturday hours at the Lakeland Clinic, 3241 Lakeland Hills Blvd., from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. If you have questions, call DOH-Polk at 863-519-7900. 

June 30 – Health and Fitness ExpoDiscover new workout routines, sample healthy snacks, and meet local health experts at the First Annual Health & Fitness Expo! This free event, featuring fitness class demos and raffle giveaways, is open to the public and will be held at Simpson Park Community Center, 1725 Martin L.
