July 27 and August 24 – STEM in the Park

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bonnet Springs Park, bring the whole family to enjoy engaging and educational Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities! Located at the Nature Center Classroom of Bonnet Springs Park (400 Bonnet Springs Blvd., Lakeland), this free event is held on the fourth Saturday of each month. No registration is required. 

July 29 and August 5, 12 – Low-Impact Exercise Class

Located in the Coleman Bush Building, 1104 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Lakeland, this free, low-intensity workout class will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Perfect for those who are just beginning their workout journey or need to slowly ease back in after some time off, Instructor Lilita Berrien will help you to improve cardiovascular function and circulation. No registration is required.

July 30 – Down Syndrome Baby/Toddler Play Group

A safe, fun playgroup for parents of children with Down Syndrome, in association with Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida. Parents and children can connect and share the progress of their developmental milestones. From 12-12:45 p.m. at the Carol Jenkins Barnett United Way Children’s Resource Center at 650 Bonnet Springs Blvd., Lakeland.

August 1 – Cancer Support Group: Skin Care and Safety 

A support group from 12 – 2 p.m. with an optional discussion of symptoms and care needs, for anyone affected by cancer, whether they are affected personally or are cancer patient caregivers/family members. Located at AdventHealth Heart of Florida Cafeteria Classroom, 40100 US Hwy 27, Davenport. This event is free of charge and registration is encouraged. August 2 – New Parent Support Group 

Located at Carol Jenkins Barnett United Way Children’s Resource Center, 650 Bonnet Springs Blvd., Lakeland, all expectant parents and new parents are welcome to attend this event from 9-10 a.m. Learn about feeding, sleeping, and bonding tips to assist in the basics of newborn and new mom care, while meeting new parents and building community and supportive relationships. August 3 – Florida Blue Back-to-School Event

Class is almost in session again, and Florida Blue wants to help you be prepared! Florida Blue Center, 1380 6th Street NW, Winter Haven. Join them for a Back-to-School event on August 3 at the Florida Blue Center. August 3 – All Level Yoga and Sound Bath @ Bok Tower

All levels of experience are welcome to attend, from beginner to experienced! This class will focus on spinal movements and breathwork techniques for balance and relaxation for the mind and body, and end with a 30-minute extended savasana sound meditation. Bring your favorite blanket or pillow. Located in the Alexander Discovery Center at Bok Tower Gardens, from 10-11:30 a.m. The cost is $30 for members and $45 for non-members, which includes admission to the park. August 7 – Car Seat Check at Lakeland Regional Health

Whether you’re expecting a new baby soon or if you need to turn an older child from rear to forward facing, this event will help you gain peace of mind that you’re keeping your children as safe as possible in the car. Certified Passenger Safety Technicians will be available at 5 p.m. and also 5:30 p.m. at 1324 Lakeland Hills Boulevard, Lakeland. To register: https://rb.gy/zvtqgi

August 7, 14 – Women’s Self-Defense Class

Participants will learn to defend themselves against common threats, enhance safety, and lessen the chances of becoming a target. Perfect for teens, college students, and all women older than 15 and taught by a female instructor! This course is from 6- 7 p.m. at Simpson Park Rec, 1725 Martin L King Jr Ave Lakeland.  $12 per class or $38 per month. August 10 – Free Sport Physicals 

Organized by Lakeland Regional Health, at the Kathleen Campus, 2400 Kathleen Road, Lakeland. From 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., sports physicals will be offered free of charge to all middle and high school students. Participants must complete the pre-appointment documentation: https://rb.gy/n2nnqn

August 13 – Sound Bath with Singing Bowls @ Bok Tower

Join meditation teacher & singing bowl specialist Anthony Profeta for a unique and immersive vibrational sound therapy spa session. Sounds/frequencies have been shown to help shift your brain waves into the more relaxed states of alpha & theta, move stuck energy out of your body, and leave your physical, mental, and emotional bodies feeling restored, refreshed, and fully aligned. August 13, September 10 – Alzheimer’s Association’s In-Person Caregiver Support Group

A safe and supportive environment for discussions and education about Alzheimer’s and specifically geared towards caregivers of friends or family members with Alzheimer’s. Located at Lake Gibson Village, 771 Carpenters Way, Lakeland, from 12-1 p.m. This event is free of charge, but registration must be completed via the Alzheimer Association’s 24/7 Helpline at  800-272-3900.

August 14 – Tobacco Free Florida’s Quit Your Way 

Advent Health Heart of Florida presents a Group Quit Session, the in-person option of Tobacco Free Florida’s Quit Your Way program, where a trained and caring facilitator provides information and NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) such as gum, lozenges, and patches to participants 18 or older. From 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at AdventHealth Heart of Florida, Cafeteria Conference Room 2, 40100 US Hwy 27, Davenport. August 20 – Breast Cancer Awareness Virtual Event

Join QuantaKUW, a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization, for an enlightening and empowering Breast Health & Cancer Info Session where you’ll gain valuable insights on the fundamentals of breast health and breast cancer. August 29 – Total Joint Replacement

This free class is for patients who have a total joint replacement surgery scheduled, plus one guest per patient. The class will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Winter Haven Hospital – Wellness Conference Room, 200 Ave F NE in Winter Haven.
