Stride for Life: Stroke Awareness Walk

Join Lakeland Regional Health from 5-7 p.m. at Lakeside Village (1479 Town Center Dr. in Lakeland) for a group walk around the shops, bringing together stroke survivors, their families, community members and our team. This event will also offer free health screenings, an information table with resources on stroke prevention, and interactive activities for all ages.

Off the Wall SOUL Line Dancing Class

From 6:30-8 p.m., come down to the Coleman-Bush Building at 1104 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Lakeland, and get your back off the wall! Down Syndrome Baby/Toddler Play Group

A safe, fun playgroup for parents of children with Down Syndrome, in association with Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida. Parents and children can connect and share the progress of their developmental milestones. Women’s Self-Defense Class

Participants will learn to defend themselves against common threats, enhance safety, and lessen the chances of becoming a target. Perfect for teens, college students, and all women over the age of 15 years of age and taught by a female instructor! Join Olivia Stancil, who has been teaching for more than three years, at the Ultimate Dance Academy for a high energy Zumba workout class that combines cardio, muscle conditioning, and flexibility. Diabetes Education Interactive Seminar

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and Watson Clinic is hosting two free, interactive educational seminars at the Watson Clinic Main Library – 1600 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland for their patients/ family members. Seminars will feature introduction of Watson Clinic’s Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, along with live demonstrations of the latest tools/technology used for insulin management. From 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Watson Clinic’s fourth-floor classroom, 1324 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland, join one of Watson Clinic’s licensed and experienced RNs to learn about childbirth! This recurring class is $50 per couple and ends with a tour of the hospital during the last of three classes. Concerns and questions from new parents will be addressed and worries will be alleviated, learning about labor and delivery, breathing techniques to employ, and medication options to make the experience as positive as possible. Alzheimer’s Association In-Person Caregiver Support Group

A safe and supportive environment for discussions and education about Alzheimer’s and specifically geared towards caregivers of friends or family members with Alzheimer’s. Confidential and educational, participants can develop methods and skills to assist in potential challenges together. Located at the Hawthorne Inn at 6150 Lakeland Highlands Road in Lakeland from 12-1 p.m. This event is free of charge, but registration must be completed via the Alzheimer’s Association’s 24/7 Helpline at  800-272-3900.

Tobacco Cessation Class

If you’re ready to quit smoking, or using tobacco, Tobacco Free Florida’s Tools to Quit program can help!  This free event is hosted by the Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center, North Campus/Hollis Cancer Center at 3525 Lakeland Hills Blvd, Lakeland, from 5:30-7 p.m. The program gives you options, resources and support to quit for good as well as the support you need to remain smoke-free. Held at Lake Crago Outdoor Recreation Complex, 525 Lake Crago Dr. in Lakeland, this fun and unique class will reveal the benefits of walking with a pole, from strengthening your core and burning more calories, to managing pain and blood sugar. This free class is for patients who have a total joint replacement surgery scheduled, plus one guest per patient. Safe Sitter Babysitting Class

From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., this Safe Sitter training prepares students in grades 6-8 on how to provide the best and safest care for young children. Students will learn the ages and stages of child development, diapering, staying in control of themselves and the children they watch, as well as many safety skills and fun activities/role playing exercises.
