The ‘Get Covered America’ initiative kicks off in Tampa

In order to help raise public awareness about the new health insurance benefits and healthcare options available under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a national campaign called “Get Covered America” has been created. On the evening of Tuesday, June 18, volunteers in the Tampa area held a Get Covered America kick-off event. According to the event organizers at the occasion, this was the first official event in the country. Shortly thereafter, other kick-off meetings were held in Phoenix, Arizona and in Austin, Texas.

According to federal reports, there are approximately 40 million Americans without insurance. As of October 1 until March 31, 2014, uninsured residents will be able to go a federal website to shop for insurance plans and coverage under the ACA. Basically, the volunteers participating in the Get Covered America campaign are here to help educate citizens about the process and their options. The goal is to make sure that everyone can make informed decisions about the available benefits and plans when it comes time for open enrollment.

If you’d like more information about the Get Covered America initiative or would like to refer any uninsured patients to the site, go to www.getcoveredamerica.org.
