December PCMA Letter

’Tis the Season to Take Care of Yourself

December is one of those months that leave a lot of people scrambling to catch their breath. Whether it’s last-minute shopping, family dinners, or year-end finances, there is a lot competing for your time and attention.

In order to take care of your loved ones, you first need to take care of yourself.

In this edition of Central Florida Health News, we talk about some great ways to rehabilitate, relax, rejuvenate, and pamper yourself. We talk to area aestheticians about how beauty and med spas can help you feel and look better.

We also give you an in-depth look at cryotherapy, which many people turn to for the treatment of arthritis, muscle pain, inflammation, and even migraine. Mike Knaisch, who taught sports medicine at Florida Southern College and is well-versed in treating injured athletes, explains the benefits of subjecting your body to sub-zero temperatures.

Don’t worry, though, our Health Hero story is sure to warm you right back up. Lisa Moseley has been a key figure for Peace River Center and its main fundraising event, Full Moon Howl. We talked to Lisa to learn what drives her passion for the organization.

This month is also important because it’s your final chance for health insurance open enrollment. Keith Sumner, Executive Sales Leader with HealthMarkets, explains some of the key points to keep in mind when picking your plan for next year. As always, don’t forget to test your knowledge of sleep apnea with our Pop Quiz!

On behalf of the Polk County Medical Association, I would like to wish you a healthy and happy holiday season!
