Earlier this year, Polk County was named the fastest growing county in Florida, and the seventh-fastest growing county in the nation. That growth has been mirrored by the area’s healthcare industry, which has been booming.
In 2023, Polk County had more announcements of new hospitals, expanded clinics, and new medical groups coming into the area than any other time I can recall. All that growth begs the question: What does this mean for the healthcare consumer?
Regardless of industry, growth and competition increase patient choice, drive innovation, help to control costs, and improve quality. Health care is no different.
On the contrary, increased competition has been known to have some disadvantages, the most common being that performance metrics can overshadow patient care and the collaboration within the healthcare community may suffer.
Essentially, as with most things in life, striking a balance is important.
As we get further into 2024, the healthcare consumer will have more choices than ever in our area, and we’re looking forward to watching services bloom. We’d love to hear your thoughts!
