As we get ready to start a new year and most people are looking ahead, I’m looking back over some of the inspirational stories we covered in 2023. Each article we write and each story we’re able to share is a blessing not just for us but also for you, the readers.
I met some incredible people this year, and their stories of courage and determination made me realize just how much we can learn through the lessons of others.
For instance:
- In February, we shared how AdventHealth University students were learning to use puppetry in occupational therapy. That kind of innovative thinking goes a long way in patient care.
- The following month, I met Kenzie Carlson, a young lady from Winter Garden who explained how service dogs like her Atlas can be especially helpful when it comes to mobility for people with certain conditions.
- In May, our annual Tribute to Nurses edition beautifully showcased a sampling of the healthcare providers who go above and beyond every day.
- The Breast Cancer Edition in October is always one of the most powerful issues we produce, and the 2023 October edition was no exception. We had the privilege of talking with Winter Haven breast cancer survivor Nikita Smith about the role community support plays in recovery.
- In November’s Diabetes Edition, we shared the story of how Ashley Bell Barnett and Nick Plott identified and acted on the need for local support for those with type 1 diabetes.
I hope their stories touched you as much as they did us. I look forward to sharing even more stories this coming year!
