Most of us have been playing catch-up since Hurricane Milton blew through, but there are some key dates coming up because it’s that time of year again.
I’m not talking about Thanksgiving or Christmas, though those are coming, too. I’m talking about the open enrollment period for health care insurance. The Florida Health Care Exchange, part of the Affordable Care Act marketplace, offers individuals the chance to obtain health insurance and is especially important for those who don’t have healthcare coverage through their employer.
Missing the open enrollment deadline could leave you without coverage for the next year.
Open enrollment starts on November 1, and if you need coverage starting January 1, 2025, the deadline to select a plan is December 15. There is a Special Enrollment Period for special circumstances such as marriage, childbirth or loss of coverage.
To sign up for coverage, you will need to go through the federal marketplace at HealthCare.gov. In addition, you can also seek assistance from a licensed insurance broker or navigator who can help you determine the level of coverage that is right for you.
