Dr. Melissa Rampal, MD, MBA, joins Bartow Regional Medical Center as its new Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Rampal has more than a decade of physician leadership experience across acute, post-acute and population health settings. Most recently, she served as a medical director and consultant for local post-acute care facilities. Previous executive roles include chief medical officer, vice president of medical affairs and medical director for health systems in Louisiana and Georgia.
In her previous executive roles, Dr. Rampal led systemwide initiatives to improve physician engagement, reduce hospital-acquired conditions, enhance interdisciplinary communication and develop innovative care models, including inpatient dialysis, palliative care services and population health programs for chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
“Dr. Rampal brings a strong combination of clinical expertise, operational leadership and a deep commitment to quality and patient-centered care,” said Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan, BayCare chief physician executive. “Her experience leading medical staffs and partnering with multidisciplinary teams will be a tremendous asset to Bartow Regional.”
Dr. Rampal earned her Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine, completing medical sciences in Dominica, West Indies, and clinical sciences in Miramar, Florida, followed by an internal medicine residency as well as nephrology and transplant nephrology fellowships at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in health care administration and is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology.
She is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and the American College of Physicians and has been recognized for her leadership and clinical contributions throughout her career.
