‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Everyone was eating…even the mouse!
During the holidays we enjoy celebrating with friends and family. We overeat and drink more than we should. Excuses for overindulgence are as easy to find as holiday cheer.
Following the holidays, either out of penance for all of the indulgences we admit to doing during the season, or out of a sincere willingness to change, we promise ourselves to be better next year. This is a cleansing ritual of self-assessment and repentance that many people go through at the beginning of each year.
Every year millions of people make New Year resolutions to improve or change their lives. While many resolutions are good, how people go about achieving them may not be ideal. Losing weight is a common goal, however, losing too much weight quickly can be dangerous and diet pills may not be safe for everyone. Another important goal is to stop smoking and can lead to better health while reducing the risk of cancer, but this can be difficult to achieve. Making a resolution is admirable. Keeping the goals simple, reasonable, and enjoyable will help you achieve them.
In last month’s issue of Central Florida Health News, the overall message focused on making healthy choices during the holidays. This month, the doctors of the Polk County Medical Association would like to help you safely keep your admirable resolutions.
