PCMA Letter: Don’t let an active lifestyle be a chore this summer

It’s fairly common amongst the general population to want to live a long, healthy, and happy life.  Remaining physically fit is imperative to this way of life.  Staying in shape helps you live longer and prevents illnesses.  This is why the doctors of the Polk County Medical Association (PCMA) bring you the fitness edition this month.

Being active doesn’t have to be boring!  There are many ways to stay in good physical shape while having a blast with family and friends.  In this issue, find tips on how to maintain an active lifestyle in recreational ways, including biking, swimming, running, and even water activities like paddleboarding… all by using organizations, resources, events, and clubs that are right in our region.

If you or a loved one are recovering from a recent injury, don’t let it affect your health or fitness.  You should read the Q&A on how to exercise safely during and after physical therapy.  In addition, you can take this month’s pop quiz to see if you are setting realistic fitness goals or if they’re causing you to stumble on your path to healthy living.  Last, but certainly not least, Dr. Ulyee Choe, the director of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County and a PCMA member, offers advice on freshwater safety and how to prevent a rare but lethal infection while enjoying all the warm, fresh bodies of water that abound in our communities.

SoniArvindOn an important side note, we’d like to extend you an invitation to our Fourth Annual Casino Night fundraiser coming up Saturday, October 25, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.  The event is hosted by Fields Motorcars Mercedes Benz, 4141 North Florida Avenue in Lakeland.  It will be a night filled with casino table games (mock money, don’t worry!), a silent auction, music, food, drinks, and more!  Proceeds from this event will go straight to We Care of Polk County and the Polk County Medical Foundation.  Come out for an evening full of fun at an event whose impact will last even after the night is over.  For more ticket or sponsor information, please contact Jackie Courtney in our office at (863) 644-4051 or email director@polkcountydoctors.com.
