SEBRING, Fla. (Tuesday, May 05, 2026) — As families across Highlands County prepare for upcoming school sports seasons, AdventHealth is helping ensure young athletes are healthy and ready to compete by offering free sports physicals and ECG heart screenings this Friday, May 8, from 12:30 to 6 p.m.
The event, which is open to all student-athletes under age 18 participating in school sports, is being held at AdventHealth Medical Group Family Medicine at Sun ’n Lake, located at 6325 U.S. Highway 27 North, Suite 201, in Sebring.
Sports physicals and electrocardiogram (ECG) screenings are an important step in helping keep young athletes safe both on and off the field. They can identify potential health concerns early, especially heart-related conditions that may not show symptoms.
“For many families, access to preventive care can be a challenge, and no child should miss out on sports simply because they can’t afford a required physical,” said Dr. Victoria Selley, chief medical officer for AdventHealth Sebring, Lake Placid and Wauchula. “By offering these services at no cost, we’re working to remove barriers and offer parents peace of mind, while also giving student-athletes the opportunity to take part safely in the activities they love.”
This event will also allow make it easier for parents and their children to get ahead of Florida’s new student-athlete safety requirements. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, the state’s new Second Chance Act will require students to complete an ECG heart screening before participating in interscholastic athletics for the first time.
Parents may choose from the following free services: sports physicals only, ECG heart screening only and both sports physical and ECG heart screening. The ECG screenings will be conducted by Who We Play For.
