With the nice weather of summer, school being out, and more vacation time at work being taken, sports activities are usually at its peak during summertime. With the increase of sports activities, often also comes an increase in dental accidents and dilemmas. Some of these dental dilemmas include cracked, chipped, broken, or lost teeth. Because we here at the Winter Haven Family Dentistry are fully aware of the many dental accidents that occur when playing summertime sports, we are telling you all about some dental procedures that you can get done here to help solve these dental dilemmas.
One simple and effective procedure that you can have done when you have a chipped or cracked tooth is dental bonding. Dental bonding is when a dentist places material that is the same color as your teeth on the cracked or chipped area of your tooth’s surface. If you completely break or lose a tooth or are suffering from severe dental damage, then you may need porcelain veneers or a root canal followed by a crown. If a root canal is required, a crown may be necessary to prevent infections or additional fractures from occurring. Many times, veneers and crowns can be made in our office on the same day and are highly strong and sturdy. In fact, porcelain veneers and crowns are known to be sturdier than dental bonding.
To help prevent dental injuries due to summertime sports, wear a mouthguard. The Winter Haven Family Dentistry can have a mouth guard made for you if needed and we can make them in your team’s colors or color of choice!
