2024: The Stories That Changed Us

As we head into a new year, we bid adieu to a year of influential stories that graced the pages of Central Florida Health News. Inspirational, powerful, and hopeful, they are the epitome of what our magazine aims to share: the human element behind the headlines. Here’s a look back at just some of the stories we had the privilege of sharing.

  • The Pets & Your Health edition is always one of our favorites to produce, and this year was no different. Terence Hickey showed us how Hearts of Gold, a therapy dog program that is part of the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida, works to lift spirits and ease anxiety across Central Florida.
  • Inside our April edition, we showed you how Meals on Wheels of Polk brings more than meals to local seniors and the homebound, it brings hope and human companionship.
  • In May, Hap Hazelwood helped us bring awareness to prostate cancer by sharing his own diagnosis and journey.
  • Mental health first aid has been a hot topic this year, and our story in August explained its importance and the role it plays in a healthier community.
  • Our October Breast Cancer Awareness edition shared the story of Caitlyn Grady, which highlighted the pivotal role mammograms play in early detection and successful treatment.
  • Just a few months ago in November, type 1 diabetic Bo Boyte showed us how advances in medical technology have changed and how his journey brought him to a place where he can help others.

Of course, there were countless other stories that also had an impact. Suffice to say the stories of 2024 embodied the spirit of hope, courage, and Central Florida Health News. Here’s to another great year!
