WATSON CLINIC NEPHROLOGY DEPARTMENT OFFERS EDUCATION CLASSES FOR ELIGIBLE CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE PATIENTS

Lakeland, FL – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in 7 American adults have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a troubling condition that inhibits the kidneys from properly filtering blood. Left untreated, CKD can lead to heart attack, stroke, and further loss of kidney function.

Watson Clinic’s Nephrology department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of CKD. Education is a crucial part of the equation for successful management of the disease.

“When a patient is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease – especially in its more advanced stages – their uncertainty of the journey ahead can be profound,” announced Watson Clinic’s board-certified nephrology specialists Michael J. Achinger, MD, MPH, Steven G. Achinger, MD, FASN, and Patrick Francois, MD. “But the more they learn about their condition and the options available to them, the more they can control their situation and thrive in it.”

For patients who have been diagnosed with stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease, the department offers a series of classes designed to help patients gain a better understanding of their disease and to make the best decisions in their management of it.

These one-on-one classes shed light on a variety of topics including proper diet, treatment options including kidney transplantation and home dialysis, and the daily ins-and-outs of living successfully with the disease.

These weekly classes are offered by appointment at Watson Clinic’s Nephrology offices on the following days:

  • Every Monday at Watson Clinic Highlands, 2300 E. County Road 540A in Lakeland
  • Every Tuesday at Watson Clinic Plant City, 615 E. Alexander St. in Plant City
  • Every Wednesday & Thursday at Watson Clinic Main, 1600 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland
  • Every Friday at Watson Clinic Bartow Building B, 2000 Osprey Blvd., Suite 201 in Bartow
