The technology behind a healthier smile

In the field of dentistry, two treatment options have made significant advances in the technology behind a healthier smile: laser gum treatment and dental implants.

Four out of five adults have gum disease, which can have serious health implications. A trained, certified clinician at Dr. Walding’s office can now treat gum disease with LANAP® protocol, a revolutionary laser treatment for moderate to advanced gum disease. Recently, we acquired the newest technology available for our patient’s periodontal care. The LANAP® (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is patented and FDA approved. The PerioLase MVP laser is specifically designed to treat periodontal disease using LANAP®. Instead of cutting away tissue and exposing the roots, we are now able to regenerate soft tissue and bone in most cases by encouraging the body to heal itself naturally. “Patients benefit from laser gum treatment with less post-operative pain, shorter recovery time, and fewer sessions for treatment and follow up,” says Dr. Trey Walding, DMD.

Patients also benefit from dental implants for numerous reasons. Dr. Walding explains that when teeth are missing, the surrounding bone begins to shrink and the jawbone changes shape due to bone loss. “Dental implants can prevent this deterioration so that your face will retain its natural shape. Dental implants look, feel, and function like healthy, natural teeth and can last a lifetime,” says Dr. Walding. “If you have one or more missing teeth or a denture that is loose or uncomfortable, and you generally have good oral health, you are likely a candidate for dental implants.” Titanium alloy screws are placed into the jawbone to take the place of missing teeth’s roots. Within a few months, bone attaches to the implant, and a replacement tooth is then attached. “Implant therapy typically requires several steps over a period of three months to one year,” continues Dr. Walding, “depending on the individual case. After treatment, our patients enjoy a renewed self-confidence, and often say they feel better, look better, and live better.”
