June 2025 PCMA Letter

Sergio Seoane

This June, we’re proud to celebrate Men’s Health Month with an edition full of valuable information, expert advice, and timely insights.

For years, conversations about prostate health have been whispered, avoided, and delayed. Yet the topic of prostate cancer has dominated discussions recently since doctors detailed the severity of former President Biden’s diagnosis. High-profile cases like his have a way of forcing issues to the forefront and into the spotlight, prompting important dialogue and encouraging greater awareness.

This edition is packed with statistics, but as with most diseases, regular screening and knowledge of family medical history play the biggest role in early detection.

We speak with Dr. Kenneth Essig, a board-certified urologist at BayCare, to explore why a small percentage of men are diagnosed at a younger age and how genetics often play a significant role in those cases.

Our Pop Quiz delves further into men’s health with a focus on low testosterone — a common yet often overlooked concern in men’s health. As men age, a decrease in this hormone can cause myriad symptoms, including depression, poor sleep, and decreased sex drive. Take our quiz to test your knowledge and learn how to spot the signs.

Our Education Feature highlights a newly formed partnership between AdventHealth University and Warner University that aims to create pathways for students studying to enter the healthcare workforce. It’s an encouraging development for more accessible care in our region.

Thanks for reading Central Florida Health News! Join us again next month as we focus on summer skin care and skin protection as the scorching summer gets into full swing.
