LAKELAND, Fla. — Daniel Haight of Lakeland Regional Health has been named a Fellow by the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Fellowship in IDSA is one of the highest honors in the field of infectious diseases. It recognizes distinguished physicians and scientists from the United States and worldwide who have achieved professional excellence and provided significant service to the profession.
Dr. Haight started his infectious disease services to the community as Director of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County and as a Professor at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in 1996. Since 2012, Dr. Haight has been the Vice President of Community Health at Lakeland Regional Health and Medical Director of Infection Prevention while continuing to teach medical students and resident physicians. Additionally, he is the Medical Director of Westminster Lakeland/Florida Presbyterian Homes.

Applicants for IDSA Fellowship must be nominated by their peers and meet specified criteria that include continuing identification with the field of infectious diseases, national or regional recognition, and publication of their scholarly work. Nominees are reviewed and elected by the IDSA Board of Directors. Fellows of IDSA work in many different settings, including clinical practice, teaching, research, public health, and healthcare administration.
