Health Through the Golden Years

Health Through the Golden Years

Sergio Seoane

As we age, maintaining good health becomes increasingly important to ensure a high quality of life. Senior health focuses on promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being for individuals in their golden years. This stage often brings unique challenges, including changes in mobility, chronic conditions, and cognitive shifts. Despite these obstacles, physical activity and social interaction can help seniors thrive well into their later years. And that’s exactly what the couple featured in this edition is doing!

Cynthia Aycock and Doug Wright dance roughly five times a week and say that dance is more than just an aerobic workout, it’s mentally stimulating and helps them to stay social. We talked with them to learn how it’s helped them stay fit.

On the topic of mental stimulation, this month’s Pop Quiz delves into the deeper details of dementia and its many characteristics.

Inside we also speak with Saving Grace Senior Consulting’s Ingrid Burch, who explains common challenges seniors and their loved ones face when choosing age-specific housing options, and Central Florida Health Care’s Dr. Devashis Mitra, who discusses how the care of a rheumatologist can substantially improve seniors’ quality of life.
