Camp Brave Heart

This annual camping weekend at Circle F. Dude Ranch is for children who have recently lost a loved one, ages five through high school. Kids can share their feelings with other kids, volunteers, Good Shepherd Hospice employees and other camp staff members, while having a fun camping weekend with crafts, canoeing, swimming, and horseback riding. Autism/ASD Support Group

Bonnet Springs Park 5k

Perfect for runners of all ages and experience levels, join Bonnet Springs Park for their annual 5k race through the Park! The race begins at 7:30 a.m., and there is also a kids’ race at 9 a.m., along with fun family activities on the Family Lawn. All participants will receive a meal and shirt! The race is USATF certified and is chip-timed.

Citizen CPR Basic Life Support Provider – American Heart Association 

An Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED combo course that teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies, providing knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adult, children, and infant patients. Cost is $60. Community-Unity Walk Run and Resource Fair

The 11th annual fundraiser for Paul A. Diggs Neighborhood Association will be held at Simpson Park Field, 1725 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Lakeland. Held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and free to all children. Come support the Save Our Children Campaign (SOCC).

Free Tax Prep

The Carol Jenkins Barnett United Way Children’s Resource Center will be hosting free tax prep appointments with IRS-certified volunteers for clients with household income less than $67,000, persons with disabilities, and limited-English speakers. After making an appointment, come to the center at 650 Bonnet Springs Blvd. in Lakeland from 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m. This location will be by appointment only. Women’s Self-Defense Class

Participants will learn to defend themselves against common threats, enhance safety, and lessen the chances of becoming a target. Hosted by Good Shepherd Hospice Women of Giving, this event will have special guests Sheriff Grady Judd, Public Defender Blair Allen, Southeastern University Professor Ken Stephens and panel moderator Stephanie Colon. Car Seat Distribution and Education Class

From 1-3 p.m., a certified child passenger technician will teach you how to correctly install and use your car seat. Medicaid, SNAP and WIC recipients will be given a car seat valued at $90.
