Alzheimer Association In-Person Caregiver Support Group

A safe and supportive environment for discussions and education about Alzheimer’s and specifically geared towards caregivers of friends or family members with Alzheimer’s. Confidential and educational, participants can develop methods and skills to assist in potential challenges together. Located at the Beautiful Minds Social Center, 1037 Florida Avenue South, Suite #130 in Lakeland from 10:30-11:30 a.m. This event is free of charge, but registration must be completed via the Alzheimer Association’s 24/7 Helpline at  800-272-3900.

Kick-off BBQ – Walk to End Alzheimer’s Polk County

Free BBQ for the public to kick off the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® Polk County on May 29 at 6 p.m. at COhatch Lakeland. This special event will give a glimpse of what this year’s event will look like and a chance to learn more about the Alzheimer’s Association, plus how to get involved and create your own team. RSVP for the kickoff event to Shree Chamberlain at sschamberlain@alz.org. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 8 a.m. at Bonnet Springs Park, 400 Bonnet Springs Blvd, in Lakeland.

Fun way to kick off the summer! Learn how to protect your skin, stay safe in and around water, and respond to summer emergencies while having fun in the sun with bubbles, water play, and a mermaid meet and greet! Hosted by Watson Clinic, the 2025 March of Dimes will be held on the lawn of First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive in Lakeland from 8-11 a.m. Registration begins at 8 and the march begins at 9.

Women’s Self-Defense Class

Participants will learn to defend themselves against common threats, enhance safety, and lessen the chances of becoming a target. Perfect for teens, college students, and all women over the age of 13 years of age and taught by a female instructor! Car Seat Safety Inspection

BayCare Kids Wellness & Safety Center is offering a free Car Seat Inspection from 9-11 a.m. at 550 Pope Avenue #100 in Winter Haven. This invaluable opportunity allows you to learn from a certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician on how to correctly install and use your car seat. Registration is required for each car seat, and if you have multiple cars or seats, additional appointments must be scheduled. Join Hearts Smarts, hosted by Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center at 3525 Lakeland Hills Boulevard, Lakeland from 1:30- 2:30 p.m. Heart Smarts will help you understand heart disease and how lifestyle changes may improve cholesterol, blood pressure control, and reduce risks. Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Support Group

When you or someone you care for has a stroke, staying informed and meeting with other stroke survivors and caregivers is important. Join other stroke survivors and caregivers at this free support group meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Please note, if you are planning to attend in person, the group will be held in the Kathy Hunt Learning Center located on the second floor of the Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children at 1324 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland. Cancer Support Group

Held every fourth Tuesday of the month, learn fun and engaging exercises that will keep you moving, healthy, and smiling with other individuals on a similar cancer journey. The cancer support group to share stories of survivorship, hope, and strength is held after the exercise class. Located at the Hollis Cancer Center, 3525 Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland, the exercise run starts at 5 p.m. and the support group starts at 5:45 p.m. No RSVP is required – feel free to just show up!
