It’s the New Year and I’ve already spoken with many friends and patients who want to lose some weight in 2019. Every year I hear about worthy weight loss goals, but little consideration is given to how dental health can impact (and yes, even hinder!) your progress, or ultimately stop you from reaching that goal. Did you know that your mouth could be slowing your improvement towards a healthier weight? Here are a few things to consider before you start your weight loss journey:
- Is a loose tooth, missing tooth, or tooth pain causing you to avoid certain foods? Many times, one of the above dental problems can contribute to poor eating habits. The first thing to go with tooth pain, a missing tooth, or a loose tooth is your commitment to eat healthy, crunchy, fresh fruits and vegetables. Case and point: an apple and raw carrots are two nutrient-packed foods that patients with dental problems will avoid.
- Is gum disease or tooth pain putting a damper on your workout routine? Gum disease is an infection, and like most infections, your body is using resources and energy to fight it off. If you’re finding that you just don’t have the energy to make it to the gym, your oral health could be a big culprit.
These are just a few examples of how your oral health can affect your overall health and your New Year’s Resolution. Don’t let it hold you back and schedule your appointment today. We are happy to help restore your teeth in a way that will make you happy and healthy. We have the skills and the technology to solve most dental issues. If you’ve been putting off getting that filling, crown, or dental implant, stop delaying and call at 863-293-1108 to learn how we can help you.
