HAINES CITY, FLA. — AdventHealth Heart of Florida was thrilled to present 24 world globes, recess equipment, and school supplies to the teachers of Bethune Academy in Haines City on Friday, August 9.

The elementary school is at 900 Ave. F in Haines City and is led by principal Robin Hewitt.

Unity in the Community originally reached out about the need teachers had for classroom equipment, wall maps, globes, recess equipment and a variety of other classroom items.

Adventhealth Heart of Florida Chief Operating Officer Julie Hess made the donation and gave a blessing to the teachers for the upcoming school year.

“Dr. Charles Anderson and Pastor Frank Adams from Unity in the Community in Haines City reached out to us about the need for classroom items for the teachers at Bethune Academy,’’ said Julie Hess, Chief Operating Officer for AdventHealth Heart of Florida. “We were more than happy to help by purchasing some of the items on their list. We donated recess equipment and world globes. The hula hoops, jump ropes and other games aligns with AdventHealth’s whole-person care approach – we love the fact that students will be able to go outside and exercise and participate in group events and just have fun. We also know that exercising and being outdoors can reduce stress and help with your mental health.”

Hess also explained the reason behind buying the globes is that AdventHealth, which is a non-for-profit, faith-based hospital system, sponsors and participates in mission projects around the globe.

“I love that the students will be able to study the globe and learn about different places,” she said.

The recess equipment included jump ropes, hula hoops, and other games for the children to play. AdventHealth also offered a variety of school supplies that were donated by AdventHealth team members, including crayons, pencils, folders, notebook paper and more.

Bethune Academy is a Magnet School for Haines City, Davenport, Lake Hamilton, Poinciana and Dundee. It is named after famous educator, Mary McLeod Bethune, a founder of Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach. The school aims to be a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
