Senior Health: Preventing the Most Common Health Concerns for Seniors

With our elderly populations living longer, our focus at Comfort Keepers is to increase quality of life through our in-home care.  Our goal is to make these additional years as healthy as possible.  Focusing on the chronic conditions affecting our senior community is one of several ways we endeavor to achieve our goal.  In-home caregivers like those with Comfort Keepers are an invaluable ally in helping to keep your senior loved one as healthy as possible.  Our in-home caregivers provide assistance in preventing and managing the following common ailments:

  1. Arthritis is likely the most common health issue for those over 65, and staying physically active— under a doctor’s care— is important.  Our caregivers help senior clients stay active by walking, taking clients to senior exercise classes, and making sure clients get to and from their doctor appointments.
  2. Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for those over 65.  Doctors recommend exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate sleep.  Our caregivers can assist with exercise, help clients purchase groceries, prepare healthy dishes, and monitor sleep patterns for optimum health.
  3. Cancer is the second most common cause of death, and our caregivers make sure senior clients get to doctor appointments and screenings that detect cancer early on.
  4. Respiratory diseases are the third most common cause of death.  Our caregivers can again help senior clients get to and from healthcare appointments, as well as help clients remember to take medications.
  5. Alzheimer’s Disease is a form of dementia that can be detected earlier on by our home care aides, and they are specially trained to help clients and their families to deal with the disease as well as possible, all while ensuring the safety of an elderly loved one.

These are just some of the most common health concerns for seniors, and here at Comfort Keepers, we are dedicated to not just helping seniors live longer, but maintaining the healthiest lifestyle possible within the comfort of home.
