PCMA President’s Column: A few recommendations

IN THIS EDITION of Central Florida Doctor magazine, we’re focusing on several topics that affect the financial aspects of the healthcare industry, both on the patient’s side of receiving care and the physician’s side of giving it.

First, there is an in-depth article that talks about where Florida stands in a recent study showing interesting statistics on the best and worst states for physicians to work. I am not going to steal any thunder, and just say it’s worth your time to read. Second, one of our own Polk County Medical Association members, Dr. Ulyee Choe, discusses what the medical community needs to know about making sure our veterans’ surviving families receive Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. In addition, I would recommend reading about how Dr. Regina Ason, a Polk County Medical Association member, came to discover radiology as her specialty of choice.

In addition to making these reading recommendations, I’d also like to invite you to learn more about joining the PCMA. Some of the many benefits of membership include the following:

• Physician referrals
• Medical malpractice discounts with The Doctors Company
• Ongoing relevant communication
• Access to CME Programs
• Workers compensation insurance benefits
• Complimentary socials/dinners
• Strong PCMA physician representation in Central Florida Health News and Central Florida Doctor publications
• Listing advantages in the annual Central Florida Physician Directory & Medical Professional Guide
• Physician and medicine advocacy at all legislative levels

For more information about how to get involved with the PCMA, please contact Jackie Courtney at (863) 644-4051, or email director@polkcountydoctors.com.

Also, physicians, administrators, and practice managers are invited to join us for a Date Night Social at Brew Hub on Wednesday, May 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. The local brewery and tasting room is located at 3900 South Frontage Road in Lakeland, and we will also be treated to a brewery tour for the evening. Finally, I’d like to ask you to mark your calendars for the Fifth Annual Casino Night fundraiser on October 24 at the Fields Mercedes Benz. We hope to see you there to have fun while supporting the health of your community!
