Editor’s Dose: A little pill of insight on nutrition news you can use

They don’t say “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” for no reason. This edition of Central Florida Health News is focusing on food because what you put in is what you get out. It’s so important for your health and the well-being of your family to eat a balanced diet of protein, fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy.

This topic is especially important for me right now, since I’m still shedding the pounds of my nine-month prenatal journey. I’m happy to report that I’ve lost 25 pounds thus far, and I’ve done it simply by staying active and eating right. Although I must admit, I sometimes give in to an Oreo cookie or two!

Speaking of cookies, remember to read the Body, Mind & Spirit article this issue on page 12. It specifically addresses the importance of not being your own worst enemy in any situation, including eating right.

In my experience with food indulgences (like cookies), I’ve discovered it’s okay to enjoy a good snack now and then, but not to let it get out of control. This is exactly the topic that’s addressed in this issue’s Web Exclusive Feature at our website: www.CentralFloridaHealthNews.com. The article entitled, “Everybody’s Eating for the Weekend,” begins with a testimony of someone who could not keep her eating habits under control, so much so that her weight was 300 pounds.
